FOUR Abbotskerswell players have headed Down Under this winter to play a season in Australia.
Hugo Whitlock, Charlie Mitchell and the Beasants, Karl and Matt, have all been placed with clubs in Victoria.
Whitlock and the Beasants are all heading off down the well-worn path to Hallora Cricket Club.
Mitchell will be playing for Strathdale Maristians Cricket Club in Bendigo where he will team up with Abbots 2014 overseas player, Jacob DeAraugo.
The four said their goodbyes at the club’s annual awards dinner, hosted at the Jolly Farmer in Newton Abbot.
Hill with 331 runs was the batsman of the year – only overseas player Dylan Nel (557) made more - and Whitlock took the bowling award.
Whitlock was second in the Devon League B Division bowling averages with 36 wickets at 10.64 runs each. No one bowled more overs (141.1) than he did in the division.
Only Ivybridge’s Sri Lankan star man Jeewan de Silva (48@8.50) had a better return.
Along the way Whitlock took five wickets for four runs to help dismiss Axminster for a season’s low of 53 all out.

More than 70 players and guests attended the dinner, where they heard chairman Paul Mitchell urge everyone to stay positive despite relegation last season.
“In a year that saw the first team relegated to the C Division there was still plenty to celebrate at the club with success in the Sunday League and the Brockman Cup - and a colts’ section that becomes more buoyant by the year,” said Mitchell.
Abbots have never played below level three – now the B Division – since joining the Devon League in 1981 and will aim to make their stay there as brief as possible.
