Fairbairn standing down as Bovey Tracey skipper

BOVEY Tracey will be looking for a new 1st XI captain next season following Andy Fairbairn’s decision to stand down.

Fairbairn took over from Peter Bradley for the 2014 campaign and led Bovey to third place in the final table.

Bovey re-appointed Fairbairn for 2015, but injuries prevented starting the season and the captaincy went back and forwards between him and Bradley.

Fairbairn intends to carry on playing, but said having a young family now makes it hard to be a full-time skipper.

“If it was just the Saturday afternoon stuff, that would be fine,” said Fairbairn.

“It is all the running around in the week that is the problem.”

Bradley has counted himself out as a permanent replacement, which leaves plenty of room for speculation.

Devon all-rounder Matt Golding may be a candidate and so could wicketkeeper Lewis Hammett.

However, the wise money at Bovey is on bowling all-rounder Sam Higgenbottom winning the vote with former Zimbabwe U19 skipper Malcolm Lake as his running mate.
