Jamie Overton happy with bowling display in Dubai

Jamie Overton is now back home with his family in North Devon after returning from Dubai where he helped England Lions beat Pakistan A in a five-match twenty20 series.

The 6ft 5ins fast bowler, who started out with Devon before becoming part of the Academy programme at Somerset, enjoyed a successful tour during which he claimed his career best twenty20 bowling figures.

The lanky paceman played in four of the T20 matches against Pakistan A, in which he bowled 13 overs and took five wickets at an average of 18.20, with a best of three for 26.

‘It was a really good trip and it felt great to win the series against Pakistan A,’ said Overton.

‘We knew we needed to win both of the last two games, which we did, so ended on a high note.

‘It’s always good winning away from home but the lads put in some good performances to come out on top.’

Talking about the way that he played Overton said: ‘I bowled well in all of the games which was very pleasing to me because I have worked pretty hard on my twenty20 skills and know much more what I am doing now.

‘I haven’t played that much twenty20 cricket in my career so it was nice to go out to Dubai and just concentrate on that format.’

Before the series Overton spent time with the EPP Performance Programme in South Africa, about which he said: ‘It was great to have spent 12 days in Potchefstroom at a training camp before we went to Dubai to play in the series.

‘I hadn’t done any bowling before we went to Potch so that got me up to speed and prepared me well for the series in Dubai.

Overton added: ‘I have worked very hard on my bowling especially over the last year or two especially on my control and that has really helped me.

‘I basically bowl the same ball now in all cricket and it works for me so I feel that I am certainly in a better place than I was a couple of years ago.’
