Brixham up to second in table

BRIXHAM are up to second in the A Division rankings after handing out a 139-run hiding to visiting Lewdown.

Skipper Andy Pugh blazed away for a top score of 90 as Brixham made 272 for eight in their 50 overs.

Veteran spinner Gary Spencer and South African star Matt McGillivray bagged five wickets each as Lewdown were hustled out for 133.

Victory put Brixham above Hatherleigh, who lost in the last over at Tavistock, with seven points between them and leaders Cornwood.

The key stand for Brixham was one of 101 for the fourth wicket between Pugh and Josh Hunt, who made 70.

When Hunt went Pugh teamed up with Mark Orchard (32) to add a further 84 for the fifth wicket.

Two Lewdown bowlers claimed three wickets Johannes Wessells (3-42) and Leon Horn (3-54).

Lewdown were just about in the game at 95 for four – Wessells making 36 – but only just.

What McGllivray (5-24) started, Spencer finished as he wheeled away for figures of five for 18.

Brixham are away to Bradninch this Saturday.

Lewdown visit Barton looking for a bounceback win.
