B Division previews - Foreman wants response + Miller optimistic

CHUDLEIGH skipper Ed Foreman knows what he wants against Shobrooke Park.

Axmimster knocked previously unbeaten Chudleigh off top spot last time out and Foreman is looked for a reaction against a Shobrooke side on a roll.

“I am looking for a big. Bounce-back performance after last week,” said Foreman/

“We were poor and basically won the game for Axminster last week.

“I have faith in the boys and know they won't let that happen again.

“We will need to be at our best tomorrow if we want to even compete with Shobrooke let alone beat them.”

Veteran seamer Mark Heather comes in for spinner Jack Vittles.

Shobrooke are going for a third successive win, but skipper Chris Simpson knows what’s coming.

‘Chudleigh will be keen to bounce back after last weekend’s upset against Axminster,” said Simpson, whose men trounced Braunton last time out.

“We fielded the best I've seen at the club last weekend, hopefully that keeps up in what should be a tight game.”

In form batter Dan Pyle is back at school so not available James Bevan is working so super veteran Pete Turner and Andrew Steer come in.

AXMINSTER captain Paul Miller feels the win over Chudeigh has kick-started the season.

Having lost three on the trot the Axemen sprung a shock on the leaders.

Miller said it was no fluke result, adding Axminster were good value for their win.

“We could have won all three previous games, but the difference at Chudleigh was we got all the elements right on the same day,” said Miller (pictured).

“There have been players missing who are starting to drift back now and we are getting stronger all the time.

“Larcombe and Murnane have missed the last two games but are back for Ivybridge, although we are without Nick Taylor this week.”

Ivybridge will show one change from the side beaten by Plymstock.

Seamer Jimmy Bullock is back in for Dave Eadie who drops to the 2nd XI.

“Good to have Jimmy back as he gives us control with the new ball, which we were definitely missing last week,” said skipper Gareth Andrews.

PLYMSTOCK skipper Scott Mansfield has a healthy respect for new boys Ipplepen, who host his side tomorrow.

“When we played them last year they beat us in all departments in the Corinthian Cup final,” said Mansfield.

“We have an idea as to how they go about their cricket and how strong they are, so it should be a interesting game.”

Plymstock cruised home against Ivybridge last Saturday, but Mansfield said there is no room for complacency.

“We still have areas to work on and expect a tough game against Ipplepen,”

Dave Orchard returns to the side after missing last week’s win.

Seam bowling all-rounder Morgan Parkinson drops down to the seconds.

Keith Wakeham led Pens to victory in the cup final, but isn’t reading much into that game.

“Plymstock have only lost once this year,” said Wakeham, whose side are unchanged.

“All Plymouth teams play hard, league cricket so we have to be ready for that and it will be a good benchmark for the progress we have made.”

SOUTH Devon will be without skipper Jon Martin against lowly Thorverton.

Martin has other cricket commitments – he is taking daughter Emily to play for Devon girls;

Thorverton were without skipper Graham White against  Ipplepen last Saturday.

White had a bad back and ruled himself out.

White answered an 11th-hour plea to assist the depleted 2nd XI at Alphington and scored 60 despite his aches and pains.

The skipper will be back at the helm for what looks like being a challenging weekend.

Thors are at home to South Pethewin on Sunday in the Davidstowe Village Cup.

Elsewhere in the B Division, Abbotskerswell are at home to Braunton.

Braunton have Alex Hodges and Mark Cresswell back in to add a bit more strength to the side.

Skipper Jon Baglow can’t knows what went wrong against Shobrooke and hopes the players can sort it out.

“We didn't bat well at all, which needs to improve,” said Baglow.

“We bowled ok but maybe tried too hard.

By keeping catchers in we created some chances, but dropped four of them.

“If Shobrooke had been four or five down early, it might have been an interesting finish.”
