C Division West - reports and reactions + Pugh in the runs

MIKE Pugh was among the runs for Babbacombe in their six-wicket win over Whitchurch.

Billy Barriball top scored with 79 for the Moorlanders, who were all out for 175.

Tim Goodwin’s three for 37 was backed up by two-wicket hauls for Cameron Fryer, Paul Bates and Seb Powell.

“We took wickets at regular stages and stopped any partnerships being built,” said skipper Steve Broad.

“I was really pleased to be chasing less than 200, and pleased the wickets were shared around.”

Pugh anchored the Babbacombe innings with 60 not out, although there were one or two anxious moments.

Skipper Steve Broad chipped in with 31 as Babbacombe cruised to a victory that keeps them third in the table.

“Nathan Beech (19) continued his recent good form but he was the only one in the top three to get to double figures,” said Broad who made a valuable 32 on the chase.

“When Nathan was caught at slip we were in a bit of trouble at 52 for three

“I joined Pughie and we put on 87 in the next 13 overs.

“Cameron Fryer joined Mike to finish the game with a 17 not out.”

CHAGFORD’S nascent promotion pace gathered a bit more pace when they defeated Kingsbridge by eight wickets.

Kingsbridge were 88 for five with Elliot Bradbury in and out for 36 then subsided to 103 all out. Three wickets fell on 102.

Neil Rowlands led the bowling effort with four for ten, backed up by Jacob Griffiths (3-20) and Derek Lammonby (2-14).

Chagford won the game with an 81-run stand between Divan Marais (58) and Paul Penberthy.

Marais was out with three runs needed to win, which left Penberthy (24no) to tie up the loose ends.

STOKE Gabriel remain rooted to the foot of the table after going down by seven wickets to Dartington & Totnes.

It looked like an early finish was inevitable after Stoke slumped to 99 for eight – Ben Robinson (35) and Jimmy Attwood (25) making most of the runs.

James Howrihane took three wickets and Nick Dennis a couple..

Seb Ansley and Jack Tolley – neither of whom are mugs with the bat  – came in down the order for Stoke and have the innings a lift.

Ansley batted through for an unbeaten 48 while Tolley weighed in with 25.

Dartington made sedate progress to 83 for three and didn’t lose another wicket getting the rest.

Most of the runs were notched by Ben van Niekerk, who was 91 not out when the total was passed.

ASHBURTON became the latest team to fall by the wayside after running into leaders Bridestowe.

A total of 204 for nine – Jaime Dark making 51 – looked competitive if nothing else.

Bridestowe made it look very modest indeed by knocking it off with more than 11 overs to spare.

Dark made the early running for Ashburton in a partnership of 69 with Martin Causey (15).

Ashley Berry went in a 103 for four and his 42 off 53 balls kept the middle order ticking over.

Tail-enders Matt Coon and Matt Churchill made 26 for the ninth wicket, which was a bonus at the time.

The Bridestowe chase got off to a quick start, with Sizmur (37) and Fogerty (14) striking the ball nicely.

Barry Down smashed his way to a quick-fire 50, including three sixes, before he holed out to deep midwicket.

Nazir Khan (55no) and James Ewen (31no) got the visitors home at a canter, with Khan winning the game with a 6 over deep midwicket.

Bridestowe won with 11 overs remaining; this week they host second-placed Chagford.
