IPPLEPEN skipper Keith Wakeham wants more of the same away to Ivybridge this Saturday.
Back-to-back wins over Thorverton and Plymstock have hoisted Ipplepen ahead of Chudleigh at the top of the table.
Having set the standard, Wakeham wants it maintained.
“The last two games have brought out the best cricket of our season to date, with discipline and spirit to the fore,” said Wakeham.
“We hope to continue it next week at Ivybridge.”
Plymstock were held to 158 for nine in their 45 overs – no one making more than skipper Scott Mansfield with 37.
Mat Mackay (20), Jack Horton (17) and Mansfield all got in but failed to keep going.
Having dispatched the first ball for four, Plymstock opener Dom Wood looked in ominous form, until Sam de Friend took an outstanding diving left- handed catch at mid-wicket to send him back in the third over.
There followed a fantastic spell of pressure cricket, as Paul Thomas (9-6-8-1) and Joe Abbott (6-2-18-1) proved difficult to get away, and included one string of 28 consecutive dot balls.
George Barnicott and Nick Lowe put on 23 at the end,
Keith Wakeham spun out three for 20 at the end after Thomas, and Nick Fairbank (2-25) had done a handy containing job.
Nick Lowe whipped out Pens’ opener deFriend in the first over, but Lewis (55) and Abbott (89no) ensured no more slip ups for a while during a stand of 131.
Horton took Lewis' off stump with a ball that didn't get up, but Dave Harris (9no) joined Abbott to see off the remaining runs without mishap.
Plymstock captain Scott Mansfield had few complaints.
“We hold our hands up and say the better team won on the day,” said Mansfield.
“From start to finish Ipplepen outplayed us and more than deserved the win.
“Batsmen were guilty of giving their wickets away, which was disappointing with the progress made in recent weeks.
“In recent weeks we've had someone go on and build a score to set a platform, today just wasn't our day
“Credit to Paul Thomas who ended with figures of 9-6-8-1. He did bowl well, but it was frustrating that we allowed him to bowl at us more than going after him.
“I hope we can get back to playing as we know we can next week against South Devon.”
