SHOBROOKE Park are up to fourth in the B Division table after beating Chudleigh by six-wickets to knock the Kate Brook side off top spot.
It’s fast-improving Axminster away this Saturday for Chris Simpson’s side who have won their last three games.
Chris Simpson, the Shobrooke captain, said his sights are set higher than fourth place.
“If you look at just staying mid table it would be easy to get relegated as everyone can beat anyone on their day,” said Simpson.
“We just want to keep playing good cricket and see what happens.”
Axminster team news is
Dan Fuzzard (pictured) is home from travelling and Nick Taylor (wedding) are back for this week’s game.
Two wins on the spin have hoisted Axminster away from the danger end of the table, but skipper Paul Miller feels Shobroke will be a tougher test again.
“Shobrooke are a good outfit as their position in the league and winning three in a row proves,” said Miller.
“That said I believe if we play like we have been it will be a great game of cricket.
“It will be nice to see Dan Fuzzard back bowling after a stint in Oz.
CHUDLEIGH, who surrendered top spot to Ipplepen, are on a bounce-back mission against visiting Abbotskerswell.
It was a second defeat in three outings for Chudleigh, not that skipper Ed Foreman is about to panic.
“I think we played well but just didn't have the cutting edge with bat or ball,” he said.
“We scored a good total but it was probably 20-30 runs short and we didn't do enough to trouble the Shobrooke batsman with the ball.
“Confidence is high, and it's only the little things that need to change.
“We are still around where we want to be in the table.
Abbots team news is that Mawgan Penrice rightly retains his place at the top of the order following his century against Braunton.
Medium pacer Phil Lacey returns to open the attack for Dickie Acton, who is back in Bristol.
NEW leaders Ipplepen make the short trip to Ivybridge.
THORVERTON have a basement battle at Braunton they really need to win to avoid being cast adrift at the bottom.
South Devon defeated Thorverton by 83 runs last Saturday, although there were mitigating circumstances.
“We had four away, then Dave Baldock broke his finger and I twisted my knee,” said skipper Graham White.
“It wasn’t much fun trying to set a field and contain in a power play with seven and a half fielders!
But I was very pleased with the attitude of the team and the spirit shown on the day.
“With the talent we have in the club, we have has no business being at the bottom of the division,
As long as we keep playing for each other, individual performances will improve and the wins will come.”
Thorverton have Andy Pitt away and David Baldock injured, but welcome back George Greed, Will Denford and Jake Crouch.
Braunton will have 10 of the 11 who faced Abbotskerswell and lost by 19 runs.
The odd one out is batter David Cresswell. A late decision will be made on his replacement.
SOUTH Devon, who visit Plymstock this Saturday, are third after chalking up a 73-run win over visiting Thorverton.
Skipper Jon Martin will return to the side having missed the win over Thorverton.
Plymstock won’t beat full strength as skipper Scott Mansfield and influential all-rounder Dave Orchard have other commitments.
Wicket keeping batsman Jason Williams drops down to the 2nd XI,
In come Hosh Hocken fresh from a second team ton last week, opening bowler Syed Ali and one other yet to be decided on.
Mansfield may not be playing, but he has a parting shot to the team.
After last week’s disappointment (against Ipplepen) I hope the lads knuckle down and show more value of their wickets whilst batting and bowl and field as a unit, something that was severely lacking last week.
“We go into this expecting a very tough game but one we believe we can come away with a win if we play like we know we can.
“This year anyone is capable of beating anyone.”
