Shobrook put Axminster under the cosh

SHOBROOKE Park’s winning run faces a thorough examination this Saturday when they visit South Devon.
Skipper Chris Simpson has led the team up to fourth in the table on the back of three straight wins – the last a six-wicket victory over Axminster.
South Devon are second following their big win at Plymstock and looking for a second successive promotion.
“South Devon look to be in form and this weekend will be a big test,” said Simpson.
Axminster were under the cosh at five for four in the fifth over with Dylan Blignault (3-39) and James Bevan posing problems.
Gary Larcombe (27) and Paul Miller (59) dug Axminster out of a hole by notching 102 for the sixth wicket.
Dan Larcombe (27) and Dan Fuzzard (23) chipped in towards a final total of 171 for eight.
Simpson (2-23) and Ben Trenaman (2-15) got into the wickets late on.
Shobrooke lost opener Jon James to a great catch at point, but a stand of 60 between Simpson (35) and Chris Ford (36) put them back on course.
Blignault effectively killed the game by making 60.
Axminster skipper Paul Miller was clear as to what went wrong.
“We simply did not bowl in the way we have been doing lately,” said Miller.
It was ‘one of those days’ for us with the ball and a performance we can quickly forget about.”
The defeat leaves Axminster joint second bottom of the table, but in a close section they are also just 13 points shy of the fifth-paced team!
On Saturday they travel to a Plymstock side that is three places and seven points better off.
Miller says: “It’s a game we need to look to win. Then bottom line is that if we bowl as we did against Shobrooke park, then we’ll get what we deserve.
“However, if we can apply ourselves in the correct manner, then there is no reason why we can’t come back with a good haul of points.”
