EXMOUTH and Torquay meet on the Maer this Saturday in what should be the Premier Division match of the day.
Torquay – played six, won five – are top of the table and Exmouth are gaining fast on them after three straight wins.
Missing from the Exmouth side that has been trotting up the table is opening batsman Andrew Buzza (pictured), who has left for A Division Bradninch.
Buzza has come through the Exmouth youth system, but hasn’t been enjoying is cricket recently and decided it was time to move on.
“I am sorry to see him go, but it is the correct decision for him for his cricket and probably our team,” said Exmouth skipper Richard Baggs.
“You can't have someone playing if he's not 100 per cent there for us.
“I will re-shuffle things and as Jon Evenett is available this week he comes straight in for Buzza.”
Torquay captain Justin Yau isn’t so sure there is anything bigger about this game than last Saturday’s win over Paignton.
“All games in the Premier are big and we will treat the game against Exmouth exactly the same,” he said.
“We always seem to have a very close battle with them and we expect the same on Saturday.
“They've been on a good roll and got themselves out of holes well which is the indication of a strong team with depth in their side.
“We bounced back last week and want to finish the first half of the season well.
“We will continue to try and play a positive brand of cricket and hopefully we can reap the rewards.
“We just need to step up to the plate like we did last year at the Maer in what was arguably our best performance last season.
“We have enough firepower to do the job and we hope we can do it again.”
Max Waller isn’t about as he's playing for Somerset on the same day. Neal Osborn comes in.
