C DIVISION
KINSBRIDGE remain in the C Division bottom two following a six-wicket defeat by Plymouth CS&R.
Jack Westlake hit 60 and James Shephard 42 in a stand of 100 for the third wicket that underpinned Kingsbridge’s total of 253 for seven. Alex Brown chipped in with 49.
James Sharp (3-42) pipped Dan Windsor (2-51) for the bowling plaudits.
Civil’s chase was built around a stand of 98 between the Gaylards – Brian with 66 and Rob with 41.
Chris Sanders kept the board ticking over with a half-century.
The only saving grace for Kingsbridge was that the teams around them lost, with one exception.
Bottom side Ashburton dipped out by six wickets to Whitchurch and Yelverton slipped up by 72 runs against Chagford.
The odd ones out were Stoke Gabriel, who beat Babbacombe by 22 runs
Stoke’s total of 206 for nine was initiated by Sam Parker (29) and Simon Edwards (28), then nudged along by Neil Robinson (52) and 33 extras.
Edwards batted early, went off poorly then returned late in the innings.
There were two wickets each for Cameon Fryer, Paul Bates and Mike Pugh at the end.
Babbacombe started disastrously with Stoke’s Seb Ansley ripping out their first three batters.
Steve Broad (69) batted doggedly to save the situation and was supported by Matt Inch (22no).
Jack Tolley’s three for 40 helped finish off Babbacombe and earn the win that lifts Stoke 11 points clear of the drop zone.
“Being bowled out for 184 chasing 207 to win was a huge disappointment, especially when only one of our top five batters reached double figures,” said Broad.
“That’s a second week when our batting has let us down, although maybe we should have been chasing no more than 175 in the first place?”
DUNCAN Manners-Chapman performed the hat-trick to speed Chagford to a 72-run win over visiting Yelverton.Chagford were in a strong position already after piling up 321 for eight – Divan Marais belting 169.
Manners-Chapman bowled Marc Glover, removed Pat Hobbs courtesy of a Will Lammonby catch and made it three from three when umpire Freddie Christophers ruled Anis Zubair was out lbw.
Yelverton’s last pair batted out time to reach 249 for nine. Liam Gardner had three for 35 in support of Manners-Chapman (3-15).
Marais was the star of the show when Chagford batted, stroking 32 fours in his 169.
There were stands of 123 with Ben Hancock (27) and another of 95 with Del Lammonby (63), Jon Wright weighed in with 21.
ASHBURTON’S problems at the foot of the table were not improved by a six-wicket defeat against Whitchurch.
Martin Causey top scored top scored for Ashburton with 69 and Taylor McLellan had 45 in a total of 212 for eight.
Dom Durman was next best with 28.
Ewan Smith fired a top score of 69 and Billy Barriball 54 as Whitchurch set off in hot pursuit.
Kevin Jacobs (36) and Charlie Barriball (25) were the supporting batsmen.
Defeat leaves Ashburton with 14 point to make up to get out of the drop zone.
DARTINGTON & Totnes held their nerve in a tense finished to beat Bridestowe by three runs and end the leaders unbeaten run.
D&T got off to a shaky start, the score was at 25-3, before rain reduced the game to 44 overs.
Dan Fogerty (2-27) bowled quickly and did much of the early damage.
Ban Van Niekerk (50), Kalon Veale (36) and Harry Baxendale (38) countered well, and between them got the score up to 128 for four.
Gary Sizmur (4-27) came back in his second spell and ripped out the middle order, thanks to some excellent catching.
D&T collapsed to 179 all out, which looked to still be a competitive score on a pitch starting to misbehave.
Bridestowe lost Sizmur to the first ball of the chase, but Sam Ewen (37) took the attack to the bowlers and kept the reply above the rate.
When he was out, wickets fell at regular intervals until Khan (25) and Hatton (35) got together.
Both fell in quick succession and Bridestowe found themselves needing 45 to win with four wickets left.
The tail end hit some big sixes but two batsmen hole out and one was stumped to leave the last pair of Fogerty and Lavis needing 21.
They got it down to four from the last over but Chris Lavis was bowled by Howrihane to hand D&T a thrilling win by three runs.
Wickets were shared around with Howrihane (2-26), Van Niekerk (2-22), Baxendale (2-37) and Colgate (2-40) all bagging a couple.
