SANDFORD skipper Jamie Palmer has warned his side to pull their socks or face the consequences after going down by 173 runs at Budleigh Salterton.
Budleigh racked up 259 for nine in the full 50 overs – Russ Discombe taking five for 35 - and Sandford were all out for 86 after 22.
Defeat drops Sandford within seven points of the relegation places with the halfway stage in the season arriving this weekend when they face bottom side Bideford.
Palmer said Sandford’s season is entering a critical phase and being all out for 86 isn’t acceptable.
“Apart from the first 10 overs we bowled and fielded well and 250 was a getable score.” Said Palmer.
“We then capitulated with the bat which was a shame.
“It's unacceptable to be bowled out in 22 overs and if we keep performing like this we're going to find ourselves in a lot of trouble.
The next four weeks are going to be hugely important with Bideford, Tavistock, Hatherleigh and Lewdown to play.
“I am looking for a lot more from the whole side to push us up the table.”
Zimbabwean hitter Cephas Zhuwao made 56 from 55 balls in a solid batting display by Budleigh.
University of Exeter student Rob Craze, who made an unexpected return from Essex to play in the game outside term time, had 34 going in at three in a stand of 59 with skipper Lloyd White (32).
Zhuwao kept the middle order ticking over before Joel Murphy and Gwyn Parks added some late runs.
Parks made 34 not out and Murphy 37 in a stand of 64 for the eighth wicket.
Discombe was the pick of the Sandford bowlers and Ryan Glass (1-32) the cheapest.
The rest all went for between five and seven an over.
Sandford’s innings was a sorry affair that started badly with Discombe falling to Sam Fereday in the first over.
Glass made 40 but no one else made a double figure score until Steve Morish went in at number nine.
Murphy (2-18) and Zhuwao (4-16) got the bulk of the wickets as Sandford slid from 51 for three to 65 for seven.
Fereday returned at the end to polish off the tail.
“Another superb, all-round display from the team,” said Budleigh captain Lloyd White.
“Racking up 260 was just over par and I was delighted to see Gwynn Parks in his first innings in 1st XI cricket do so well.
“He took his opportunity with both hands. Joel Murphy is in great form with bat and ball too.”
