SHOBROOKE Park snatched second-place off South Devon by beating them by 20 runs in a tense affair.
After Chris Ford (24) and Jon James (17) got Shobrooke off to a 41-run start, there were regular top ups from Tom Youngman (22) and Dylan Blignaut (36).
Phil Anning biffed 43 not out at the end as Shobrooke made it maximum batting bonus points with a total of 201 for eight.
Sean Day had a five-wicket haul for South Devon and Neil Hancock took two for 35.
South Devon promptly slumped to 35 for four in reply with dangerman Hancock among the casualties.
Day (58) and Jon Martin (38) put on 83 for the fifth wicket as South Devon fought back – some of the 41 extras chucked down by Shobrooke clearly helping.
South Devon couldn’t keep it up though and were all out for 181 – Cameron Fogden sticking around at the end to earn them a fourth bonus batting point.
There were two wickets each for Blignaut and James Bevan and three for 16 for veteran Pete Turner.
“It was a great result considering we were not at our best,” said Shobrooke skipper Chris Simpson.
Looking ahead to the derby clash with Shobrooke, Simpson said: “Right now we are just looking to stay in the top four of what is a tough competition.
“If you look at Thorverton they have some quality players and are a struggle to beat.
“We have to remember if we are a bit off our game you can lose games of cricket.”
