THORVERTON were unable to follow up their win over Braunton with another one as they dipped to a 56-run defeat against Chudleigh.
Skipper Graham White had hoped it was a corner turned against Braunton after a run of defeats dating back to the second week of the season.
It seemed Thors had done the hard bit by dismissing Chudleigh for 173 – Kobi Griggs taking five for 25 including a wicket with the first ball of the game.
But Thors were all out for 117 in reply, which leaves them bottom of the table 12 points from safety.
A furious White said: “We should have won - simple as that.
“We have issues with injuries and unavailability and could have made a reasonable 1st X1 from players not available for selection on Saturday.
“But having done a good job in the field we had more than enough batting to chase 174, and we let ourselves down with the bat with plenty of soft dismissals.
“There’s a big local derby against Shobrooke next and thankfully we will have several players coming back.”
Chudleigh were glad of a 72-run stand between Mark Solway (26) and Matt Heather (33) for getting them going after losing Paul Horne.
Jake Choules (2-28) and Andy Pitt (2-25) kept things tight as Chudleigh labored to 109 for six after losing Solway and Heather.
A stand of 48 between Jack Faulkner (10) and Faisel Khaliq (36) got Chudleigh going again before Griggs came back to blow away the tail enders.
The game got away from Thorverton in the time it took them to slip from 54 for one – Griggs making 24 – to 70 for six.
Jake Crouch (22) and Pitt (16) put up some resistance, but by then it was too late.
Khaliq (3-20) was backed up by Will Heather (2-7), and Mark Heather (2-19) as Thors were rolled over.
