Budleigh beat Lewdown before showdown with leaders

BUDLEIGH Salterton warmed up for a crack at leaders Brixham this Saturday with a 47-run win at Lewdown.

Second-placed Budleigh’s batting was solid at the top with Andy Procter (22), Lloyd White (29) and Cephas Zhuwao (45) making early runs.

Leon Horn (3-46) and Billy Searle (2-32) made breakthroughs after Johan Wessels bowled an interesting 10 over spell for 25 runs. His first three overs went for 13, which made the rest really cheap.

Seventh-wicket pair Sam Richardson (42) and Joel Murphy (34) added 70 to the final product of 234 all out. Forty-four extras helped.

Lewdown raced to 50 in the first eight overs through Harry Geering (33) and Billy Searle.

Murphy (3-44), Zhuwao (2-32) and Andy Procter, who opened the bowling with spin, started to work through the order.

Searle was last man out for 88 in a Lewdown total of 187.

Having won six on the trot in the league and one in the Devon Cup as well, Budleigh feel they are on a roll.

“I'm delighted with the run we have gone on,” said the skipper.

“We have put in some superb team efforts recently.

“The experienced Andy Procter and Joel Murphy have been absolutely superb with bat and ball - and I've been so impressed with young lads Sid Fereday and Gwynn Parks.

“All their contributions have been so valuable to the side.

“We have conducted ourselves extremely professionally and I think in hindsight the absolute decimation by Cornwood first game of the season woke us all up and is now a distant memory.

“We are full of optimism and confidence and look forward to hosting top-of-the-table Brixham on our home turf and will be doing our utmost to peg them back as much as possible.”
