Heathcoat looking at top-four finish says Lochead

HEATHCOAT go to struggling Plymouth hoping to register a third win on the spin.

Back-to-back wins over Paignton and Exeter have lifted Heathcoat out of immediate danger at the wrong end of the table.

Toby Lochead, the Heathcoat vice-captain,  the team can start looking up the table rather than down it now.

“A win will put us in a very strong position to finish in the top four,” said Lochead.

“Results have already shown that anyone can beat anyone in the division, and if we play our best cricket then we know we are a match for any side we play against.”

Seamer Jamie Drew has been part of the recent revival now he is bowling at his best again after suffering a calf injury playing for Devon U17s last season.

Lochead said Drew’s inclusion in the latest Devon Lions side is wholly warranted.

“Jamie has bowled well for two or three seasons now and has been called up to the Lions squad, which is brilliant for him,” said Lochead.

“The experience of playing in those games can only help Heathcoat as we progress through the season.”

Although they are second from bottom. Plymouth skipper Sam Stein doesn’t think his side are that far away from turning the corner.

“We took Exmouth to the 45th over having 180 on the board so a lot of positives to take,” said Stein.

“We are a very close team so we all know that a good few wins are just around the corner. We are looking to start that this weekend.”

Second team centurion Joe Hagan-Burt comes in for Jon Varcoe, who goes down to captain the 2nd XI.
