Island Sports Youth League: Paignton mount late push

UNDER 17 A DIVISION

STOKE Gabriel remain unbeaten at the top following their six-run victory over Barton.

In an absorbing, low-scoring match, Stoke scrambled to 83 for nine batting first.

Matt Wreford, Will Farley, Jamie Peters and Morgan Harford took two wickets each for Barton. Opener Tom Drake lead Barton’s reply by scoring 39, but his colleagues didn’t chip in and the reply ended up on 77 for five.

Jamie Taylor’s two for five from four overs was an impressive performance for Stoke Gabriel.

Barton lost again at Paignton, despite scoring 122 for two with Will Farley (51ret), but it was not enough in reply to Paignton’s 140 for five. Peter Taylor scored 52 and Alex Booth 33 for the winners.

Paignton went on to defeat Bovey Tracey after bowling them out for 124 withJack Thomas (49) the top scorer.

Paignton’s George Yates retired on 52 leaving Callum Stanley to see his team to victory with an undefeated 28.

Now in third place on 62 points Paignton, with games in hand over Stoke Gabriel and Barton, are making a late challenge for the title.

UNDER 17 B DIVISION

BRIXHAM still top the division after a comfortable win at Kingsbridge.

The home side were dismissed for 64 due to outstanding bowling from Matt Parsons 3-14,

Mike Meech (4-4) and J Thomas (2-3) took the bowling. Brixham won in the 14th over after losing three wickets.

Meech opened the innings and remained unbeaten on 14 not out.

Chudleigh (121 points ) remain in the title chase after a 58-run victory at home to Torquay.

Chudleigh posted 141-2 in their innings – Dan LeMarquand (35) and Matt Heather (51ret) opened up with a 93-run partnership. Ben Holmes was unbeaten on 33.

Torquay’s reply was never competitive as they were dismissed for 83 – top score was extras (23) with Neal Osborn (14) and George Luxton (18) the only batsmen in double figures.

Loveridge, Brown and Heather took two wickets each for Chudleigh.
