Collinge back for second stint as Exmouth chairman

EXMOUTH loyalist Ashton Collinge has stepped into the breach as club chairman for a second stint following the death of Richard Butler.

Collinge joined Exmouth as a player in 1977 and has been there ever since as a player and administrator.

He spent 15 years in the 1st XI, captained the 2nd XI after that and has had 22 years on the club committee.

When Jim Wood stood down as chairman in 2004 to take over the Devon Cricket Board chair, Collinge took over for a two-and-a-half-year stint.

Collinge (pictured) has also been membership secretary and colts manager – and still has the odd game for the 3rd XI if required.

Paul Corder, the Exmouth secretary, said the club were lucky to have someone with Collinge’s experience to take on the role.

“The committee are already appreciating Ashton’s vast knowledge of the club’s past and this will enable us to move into the future with fresh vigour,” said Corder.

“We are convinced Ashton will guide us past our difficult last three months and ensure the club thrives.

“Richard will be a hard act to follow, however in Ashton we feel confident of building a better and more inclusive club.”

Collinge’s appointment isn’t the only one Exmouth have made in the past few weeks.

Exmouth have asked Alan Schaufler to take on the task of estates manager. His first project will be setting the club up for the NatWest Cricketforce weekend in early April.
