Devon starlet Knight on England women in South Africa

ENGLAND Women go into the third and final T20 international in Johannesburg on Sunday looking for a win to clinch the three-match series.

England started the series with a 15-run win over South Africa in Paarl.

England appeared under pressure at Boland Park as their hosts reached 96 for none by the 15th over, chasing 148 to win.

Somerset's Anya Shrubsole (3-25) returned to take three for nine in her second spell as South Africa faltered to 129 for six.

The series moved to Newlands in Cape Town on Friday, where England were comfortably beaten by seven wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis method after posting 156 for six.

England vice-captain Heather Knight, whose home-town club is Plymstock, said: 'We would have backed ourselves at half-time to defend that score, but unfortunately we were not quite good enough with the ball

'We have been really good with the ball over the last few games, but unfortunately today we were not quite there. Credit to South Africa.

'It is going to be a big game on Sunday, obviously both teams will be looking to get a series win.

'Leading into the World Cup, we want to get a little bit of momentum and put in a good performance. It is set up very nicely.'

Knight showed her all-round talent by taking on an unfamiliar new-ball role with Shrubsole, sending down three overs of off-spin for just 18 runs.

'It has been a while since I have opened the bowling, a couple of years, but it is nice,' she said. 'We have got a lot of people who can bowl in that powerplay.

'I don't think I have ever opened with Anya before, so that is a new one, but T20 cricket is part and parcel to bowl with that new ball.

'You certainly feel the pressure in that powerplay, it is really exciting and it is something I enjoy doing.'
