Devon Cup - Plymouth out to break Sid stranglehold

HOLDERS Sidmouth meet Plymouth at Bovey Tracey today - weather permitting - in the delayed second semi-final of the Devon KO Cup.

Exmouth ran up a record score of 419 for seven against Exeter last Sunday in the first semi-final - David Lye clattered 121 off just 61 balls and hit 13 fours and eight sixes during a stay of 63 minutes.

Lye went from 0-50 in 34 balls and 50-100 in another 19.

Exeter were 255 for nine when the clock ran down.Plymouth have an extra incentive to reach the final this season as it is being played on their ground.

First they have to get past Sidmouth, who are aiming for a hat-trick of wins, which has never been done before.

'The final is at Mount Wise so we are desperate to get there,' said Plymouth captain Matt Hooper.

'It would cap a good season for us to be in the final, on our own ground and to lift the cup.'

Callum Whittaker makes way for Harry Stephenson who has shown good form in the seconds.

Sidmouth bring in Dominic Bess for Josh Bess, who is skippering Devon against Oxfordshire.

Competition organisers are keeping their fingers crossed the weather improves as they don't have too many spare dates left. The final is due to be played a week today with a reserve date of September 1. If today's match is off the likely solution is to re-arrange for next Sunday.
