DEVON have drafted in James Burke for today’s 50-over game against Gloucestershire Academy at Cornwood (noon).
Since the team was announced there have been a number of drop outs, among them Exeter’s Billy Searle, Bradninch’s Dan Hardy and Bovey Tracey’s Matt Golding, another member of the senior side.
Devon’s team management are well aware there are numerous calls on their rising stars for county age-group sides and want to avoid players being burned out by playing too much cricket.
The original 12 has been slimmed down to 11 Burke coming in for Golding early on.
Hal Kerton comes in for Searle while Hardy hasn’t been replaced, leaving Devon with the bare XI.
Cornwood’s Matt Skeemer will act as 12th man for the game, although his form in the Premier Division has been good enough this season to suggest he may be invited to play if anyone else drops out.
Devon Josh Mailling (Plympton), Max Curtis, Barney Huxtable (both North Devon), James Burke (Budleigh), Matt Thompson (Torquay), Jack Dart (Budleigh), Hal Kerton (Plymstock), Will Squire (Bradninch), Jack Popham (Barnstaple & Pilton), Rob Bennett (Plymouth), Sam Wyatt-Haines (Bovey Tracey).
