E Division - Kingdon hits another ton

BABBACOMBE completed their championship-winning campaign in the E Division with a 107-run win over Topsham.

Andy Kingdon made an unbeaten 125 and Mike Pugh hit 61 as Babbacombe made 251 for seven in 45 overs.

Topsham St James got off to a terrible start. Jim Shepherd, Ed Baxter and Nick Horne all went cheaply, leaving the score 13 for three. Nick Crew (23) and Sparkes (16) went about rebuilding positively put on 50 before departing in quick succession.

Joe Thomlinson (30), Theo Miller (31) and Charlie Penn (18) attempted to get the Saints home but, once they were all back in the pavilion, the innings soon came to a close

Topsham were all out in reply for 144 – Tim Goodwin taking three for eight.

Whimple went into their final game with an outside chance of promotion, but they needed to win their game and make up a 12-point deficit on second paced Whitchurch.

Whitchurch lost their final game to Kenn and banked just seven points which would have left Whimple promoted had they beaten Bridestowe with 19 points.

Upottery were desperately unlucky in their bid for last-day survival.

They travelled to Kentisbeare for their final game knowing only a declaration victory and 22 points would give them any chance.

They did just that only to then learn of their fate from results elsewhere.

Batting first Upottery declared on 264-6.

In a thrilling finish the Mid Devon side got to within a single run, closing on 263-9 with Upottery taking 21 points.

Kilmington went down by three wickets in their final game of the E Division season, beaten by hosts Yarcombe.

With Yarcombe relegated before the game there was an end of season feel about the contest with neither side having anything to play for.

Ralph Cook (66), skipper Hal Cook (45no) and Dave Cook (43) combined to see their side to 230-8.

That was passed by the home team with three wickets in hand.

Rex Helston (3-41) and Billy Reed (2-29) had claimed wickets to restrict the visitors to 230-8.

Simon Durrant top scored with 78 and skipper Rob Mitchum hit 57 as Yarcombe sealed a three wicket success on 233-7.

Izzy Wickramaratne (3-43) and Hal Cook (3-48) were the principle wicket takers for Kilmington.
