A DIVISION leaders Plympton, who are seven points clear at the top, face a tricky trip to Hatherleigh.
Three defeats on the trot have dropped Hatherleigh within eight points of the relegation zone and they need to start winning again.
Outs are Andy Walter (unavailable) and Chris Bunney (holiday). In come Ross Farrer and Craig Miles
“A couple of changes again but happy with the lads coming in, one being Ross, wicket keeper turned spinner and leading wicket taker with 18,” said skipper James Carr.
“The lads are confident, playing good, positive cricket and we aim to keep the ball rolling this Saturday at Hatherleigh.
“The last few matches against Hatherleigh have been tough, very close matches. and they are fighting for their lives so were ready for another tough fixture.”
Second-placed Bradninch go to Brixham, who are still smarting from their derby defeat at Barton.
Brixham skipper Andy Pugh is hoping to get fewer lbw decisions this week as three cost his men dearly at Barton.
George Northcott and Tim Robinson are back for Will Lewin and Rory MacDonald.
Bradninch captain Tim Piper said although Brixham are struggling in some departments, they will be tougher than Abbots last time out.
“Brixham will be much more challenging opponents than we have faced in the last couple of games” said Piper.
“They have struggled for runs this year, from what I've seen, and perhaps lack depth with the bat and the ball.
“Our targets remain as they always have been. We have some good momentum at the moment.
“One thing to be wary of is thinking it will come easily as we've just had two easy wins in a row.
“There are a couple of good teams and we can't afford to drop our standards at any point.”
Bradninch will be unchanged.
Paignton, going all out for promotion, are away to Lewdown.
The Queens Park outfit were fourth this time last year, but fell away on the last lap.
“We learned out lesson last year and are all another year older,” said skipper Connor Bryan.
“The boy know the next few games are massive for us.”
With Richard Ashworth not available, Mika Elstrom comes into the side.
Lewdown are one off the bottom and need to start wining fast to avoid a prompt return to the B Division.
“We know Paignton will be difficult, but after them we play all the teams around us,” said Lewdown skipper Harry Geering.
“Two wins in the last five games is our target.
“I hope a few people find some form against Paignton to take into the must-win games coming up.”
Lewdown are without the injured Ben Williams and Gary Sizmur, who is away.
Tom Pearce stays in after impressing against Plympton last time out.
Chudleigh entertain Abbotskerswell in a game neither can afford to lose.
Time is running out for Chudleigh to get off the bottom – and Abbots are the side the have to get ahead of to do it.
The Kate Brook side lost by seven wickets to Paignton last time out, playing what skipper Ed Foreman described as their ‘worst’ cricket of the season.
“We have to improve dramatically from last week if we want to get anything out of this game,” said Foreman,
“This season is all about learning lessons and I hope we have learnt some harsh ones after last week.
“Some will say this week is massive for us but I disagree. I would say it’s a massive week for Abbots and just another chance for us to get some experience in this division.”
You won’t catch Abbots skipper Dickie Acton arguing with Formeman.
“Every game from now until the end of the season is huge for us, but this Saturday against Chudleigh is particularly important,” he said.
“We have to put in good performances against teams that are near us in the table if we want to move clear of the bottom two.
“Chudleigh look like they have improved since we last met so it wont be an easy game.
“I am expecting the more experienced guys in the team to really step up this Saturday.
“If we play as well as I know we can then we will come away with a win.”
Shaun Newland returns to the Chudleigh side.
Abbots team news is that Tom Andrew and Gareth Penrice return in place of Paul Acton and Charlie Hill.
