AXMINSTER have signed former Devon U21s spinner Dave Field to bolster their bowling attack for the rest of the season.
Field, originally with Seaton, came up through the age-groups with Devon and went on to play in the U21s’ side that lost the 2003 County Championship final to Derbyshire at Derby.
Devon regulars Trevor Anning, David Lye and Rob Holman were members of that side.
Field joined Kilmington in 2010, but has not featured regularly for them recently.
A second bit of good news for Axminster is that seamer Rob Prior may play again before the end of the season after surgery on a knee injury.
“Rob has had keyhole surgery and is due to start rehab this week,” said skipper Tristan Wakeley.
BIDEFORD give a belated debut to Aussle Josh Roach at Axminster tomorrow.
Roach only arrived n Wednesday and announced his arrival with 40-odd in a Midweek match.
Roach replaces Ian Hayter behind the stumps in an otherwise unchanged team.
TAVISTOCK will be looking to push on from their win at Bideford when Ivybridge visit the Ring.
Tavvy are top after winning at Bideford with Ivybridge third 17 points behind.
Shaun Daymond, the Tavvy skipper, has a healthy respect for Ivybridge.
“I think ivybridge will be the team to beat in this division,” said Daymond. “They’re strong in all departments. The key will be containing Jeewan de Silva.
“If we perform with the maturity and control we have shown in the past few weeks, we stand a good chance.”
Ian Gray and James McGahey are back to strengthen the batting.
Ivybridge, who were called off against Thorverton, bring in all-rounder Chris Greenhouse for Harry Solomon.
“We're looking forward to getting a game in, especially against Tavistock who are a very good side,” said Bridge skipper Gareth Andrews, who is still sidelined with a back injury.
SECOND-placed Thorverton don’t want another rain-off slowing their pursuit of Tavistock at the top.
They are at home to Braunton, who are only six points behind and feeling flush after winning at Stoke Gabriel.
“We are very keen to get on the field after two wins and two washouts, so hoping it stops raining as forecast,” said Thors’ captain Graham White.
“You have to respect Braunton and their two wins.”
Stuart Tait comes in for the unavailable Gill Crouch.
THE season starts tomorrow for Plymstock when they visit bottom side Barnstaple & Pilton.
One win in the first month of the season isn’t the sort of form that will get Plymstock straight back in the A Division this season.
“We are looking to start a fresh this week -what's gone is gone and there's no point in dwelling on it,” said Plymstock captain James Nichols.
“I'm looking to get more from my side as we aren't that far off putting in a proper display.
“It doesn't need over analyzing, all it simply is is partnerships when we are batting. We have a lot of talent that needs to be channeled well so we can post the scores we should do.
“Whether that's through confidence or shot selection it's something we have worked hard on this week and I was very impressed with the training set up..
“Bowling wise we look good and just need to cut out loose balls and then we are a very tight-knit outfit..
“As for Barnstaple, I don't care where they are in the league as anyone can beat anyone on their day and we are expecting a very tough game so we will have to up our standards.
“I don't know too much about them and I'm not unduly worried by reputations either as every player deserves respect.
“What I am looking forward too is a real Plymstock performance to get the belief back into my boys..
Dave orchard is away and Rob Baker misses out. In come Morgan Parkinson and batsman Callum Cload.
ELSEWHERE, Shobrooke Park are at home to lowly Stoke Gabriel, who have perked up after getting all-rounder Dave Bolland playing again after a break from the game.
