Tidball earns recall for Hatherleigh

B DIVISION

BARTON will be looking to underline their promotion credentials with a win over visiting Chudleigh.
The Cricketfield Road outfit turned over Axminster last time out and collected all 20 points in the process.
Barton captain Adam Parker said: “We are looking to build on last week’s win.
“It was a brilliant team effort and a great start, but there is room for improvement.
“I will be looking for us to push on against Chudleigh.”
Jack Porter and Will Grainger are not available. No decisions have been made on their replacements.
Chudleigh’s only team news is that Lance Ames – the star of the win at Alphington on day one with a half century - isn’t available due to family commitments. No replacement has been named yet.
Skipper Jon Martin knows all about Barton having spent five seasons there before returing to Kate Brook.
Any happy memories will be shelved until after the match though.
“It is a top-of-the-table clash and there is no room for sentiment,” said Martin.
“We had a good start at Alphington, picking up 20 points, but we need to improve our games.
“Too many extras were given away and too many catches dropped in what should have been a much easier win.”

Alphington will have skipper Paul James back against Tavistock and a new batsman.
Chudleigh beat Alphington in the first round of fixture, knocking off 111 to win for the loss of one wicket.
Lance Ames unbeaten half century swung it Chudleigh’s way, according to Alphas No.2 Stuart Shaw.
“We lost a game we should have won and Lances was the difference between the sides,” said Shaw.
“He batted sensibly in poor conditions, knuckling down until a bad ball came along then putting it away.”

LEWDOWN will be without the Williams brothers for the derby date with Hatherleigh.
Ben and Jack – both all-rounders – are required for a school game by Kelly College, who have first claim on them,
Lewdown skipper Charlie Hughes hasn’t announced the team yet, but has admitted his hopes of strengthening the side with a new signing have come to nothing.
“I had hoped Gary Suzmur would be coming to us from Chagford, but he has decided to stay where he is,” said Hughes.
Lewdown were rained off against Thorverton last Saturday, but not everyone in the team had a day off.
South African pro Rob Mutch was invited to play in the 2nd XI fixture against Whitchurch and did get some time in the middle.
Mutch has been assisting another 2nd XI this season – Somerset’s – so pitching him into the D Division West seemed a bit out of place.
“We were short, Rob was desperate for a bat and so he turned out for the 2nd XI,” said Hughes.
“He was in and out for four and that didn’t really make a difference.
“Yes he did take three wickets for four runs, but that was in two overs and as soon as he had done that the skipper hooked him off.
“Rob wanted some game time but the last thing anyone wanted was for him to dominate the game.”
Hatherlegh are three men short of the side which beat Barnstaple – Andy Bennett, Rob Cockwill and Simon Gillespie – but are lucky to have some depth.

“After last week’s win we are very confident, but know tougher challenges lie ahead, starting against Lewdown who gave us to heavy beatings last season,” said hatherleigh captain Mark Lake.
“I am hoping to pick up more points to carry on the good start.”

THORVERTON will be hoping to make a belated start to their season away to Axminster.
Thoverton captain Ali Fury said: “ I am hoping we can get out there and gets some points on the board.”
Nick Barton isn’t available but Gareth Hess, new signing David Baldock and Phil Jones all return to the side.
