C DIVISION 1st XI
SEATON are starting to look a little anxiously over their shoulders after going down by nine wickets to Bideford.
On a day when only two games were played in the division due to bad weather, Seaton would have been better off staying indoors.
Two batting points were all they had to show for their efforts, whereas they would have had six had it been called off!
Skipper Ben Morgan top scored with 36 and Matt Hancock (22), Ian Hunt (17) and Mark Bray (15), chipped in as Seaton closed on 148 for seven in a 40-over game.
There were three wickets each for James Ford (3-20) and Chris Luxton (3-24).
Seaton did not have enough to test a powerful Bideford batting line up.
Ford (10) was the man out at 32, leaving Matt Allin (58no) and Mike Young (63no) to knock off the rest.
A disappointed Morgan said: “It is frustrating because before the game we spoke of the need to be disciplined with the bat and not give our wickets away and, in many of the wickets to fall, we were very guilty of aiding the Bideford cause!
“Bideford are a very good side and there’s no shame being turned over by them but we certainly need to step up to the mark against other sides in the Division or we are going to be faced with a long hard struggle this term.
Defeat leaves Seaton third bottom of the C Division table, some 19 points clear of the bottom two.
Clyst Hydon’s game against Stoke Gabriel was among the games to fall foul of the weather.
Ashburton are 21 points away from safety at the bottom of the table following a seven-wicket defeat by Lewdown.
Ashley Berry made 36 in Ashes’ innings of 127 all out, which faded after Tom Durman (25) and Kev Nicholls (16) had given them a 37-run start. Charlie Hughes had four wickets and Rob Mutch three.
Harry Geering (50) and Chris Harris (10) gave Lewdown a 46-run start, leaving Mutch (40no) to tie up the lose ends. Andy Harvey took two of the three wickets to fall.
