C Division - Hurford hammers double ton

CLYST St George were on the receiving end of a batting master class from Axminster’s Johnny Hurford.
Hurford is one of five old boys lured back to Cloakham Lawn this season by new captain Tristan Wakeley as he tries to repair the club’s fortunes.
Hurford, who rejoined from Ilminster, showed why Wakeley wanted him back by belting an unbeaten double hundred as Axminster amassed 311 for two declared on a day which will haunt Clyst’s bowlers for a long time to come.
Hurford opened up with Gary Larcombe (32) , another returnee, and they put on 79.
A stand of 224 followed for the second wicket with Joel Seward (59) towed along by Hurford until the score reached 303 for two.
Wakeley declared when Hurford reached his double ton. It included 12 fours and 16 sixes.
Clyst were all out for 122 in reply with Matt Cook (28) and Chris Ferro (25) making the only scores of note.
Wickets were taken by Rob Prior (3-7) and Matt Pyle (3-26).

OTTERY St Mary suffered an embarrassing 201-run defeat at Bideford where they were skittled out for 27.
There clearly wasn’t anything wrong with the track at Westward Ho! as the home side cruised along to 228 for nine.
Matt Allin was on form with 89 and put on 95 for the first wicket with skipper James Ford (37). Josh King chipped in with 35 lower down.
There were three wickets each for Ottery bowlers Will Harrison (3-31) and Jody Clements (3-44) and two for Adrian Pullin.
Pullin (11) was the only batter in double figures as Ottery’s last seven wickets went for one run each.
Fred King took four for 19 but star of the bowling show was Josh Atkinson with six for eight.

JAMES Westlake hit 96 as Kingsbridge batted Chagford out of the game on the way to a 104-run win at the Butts.
Westlake and Chris Bowles (39) were the main run getters in Kings total of 247 for six.
Chagford’s best bowling returns were from Jon Wright (2-32) and Tim Pitts-Tucker (2-47).
Chagford never really got out of the blocks as Bhanu deSilva (3-29), James Rosewarne (2-14) and Angus Watson (2-24) tied them down.
Jacob Barber had a top score of 35 in an all-out total of 135.

DARTINGTON pushed Yelverton all the way before going down by two wickets in a low-scoring affair.
Scot Colgate hit 37 as D&T reached 156 for eight despite the best efforts of Chris Pearson (2-27) and Richard West (2-31) to stop them.
Pearson struck with the first ball of his first over to remove Dartington's Overseas Player Brad Mitchell for a duck.
Only Scott Colgate, John Colegate (20) and Sam Gornall (20no) were allowed to get going.
Yelverton's reply was similarly cautious against some disciplined D&T bowling.
Wickets were lost at regular intervals to Dave Carter (4-25) as Yelverton crawled along to 67-5.
A sixth-wicket stand of 41 between Steve Luffman and Dave Scott (21) got the innings back on track and when Scott was out, Luffman (63 no) & Matt Tamsett (22) added a further 33 runs to almost see Yelverton almost home.
Tamsett was out with five required and Luffman hit the winning boundary.

IPPLEPEN didn’t the start they wanted as they were 20-ruun losers to Plymouth CS&R.
Pens skipper Keith Wakeham will be wondering where it all went wrong as his side seemed to be in the driving seat when Civil were 51 for five.
Steve Bowden (5-19) had done the initial damage, but Civil recovered with Dan Windsor (52) and Andy Hawker (28) showing the rest how it should be done.
The Pens went in fits and starts to 129 for six as Ciaran Ellard (4-28) and Rob Walker (3-30) put them under pressure.
Seb Powell (54) and Sam Wakeham (38) did what they could, but Pens were all out for 169 chasing 190 to win.
