CHUDLEIGH had some pre-season disruption they could have done without when promotion-winning captain Jonny Martin packed his bags for South Devon
The Kate Brook outfit had already lost seamer Sean Day to South Devon, so losing Martin as well was a real blow.
Between them they took 58 wickets last season and Day was among the division’s top-10 batters.
Jack Thomas has returned to Bovey Tracey after a year at Chudleigh spent largely in the 2nd XI.
Scott Schaw, the South African who belted 500 league runs last season, hasn’t returned but Chudleigh do have a replacement.
Sachintha Galhenage, a spin bowling all-rounder, has joined the club after a successful season at home in South Africa for Free State U19s and Grey College.
It is likely Chudleigh will unveil a new seam-bowling signing, with international pedigree, in the coming weeks.
New captain Ed Foreman said: “Our first goal is to consolidate our position in the A Division; however a far more important priority for me is the continued development of our young side.
“We have some very talented young cricketers and I am very happy to place my faith in them.”
Chudleigh open the season away to Brixham.
