D Division - Bullman ton in vain for Shaldon

SHALDON’S Todd Bullman hit a century and still ended up on the losing side when Countess Wear visited Hazeldown Oval.
For James Bouge hit one in reply for Countess Wear, who knocked off 238 to win with four overs to go.
Bullman nailed 21 boundaries during a 135-ball knock of 129. Mark Couch made 24 and Karl Blackburn two for 22.
Shaldon paid the penalty for dropping Bogue when they had the chance – not once but three times. Couch was the hapless bowler on each occasion.
Bogue was backed up by Stephen Millington (38) and Tom Brooks (33) as the runs were knocked off with four overs to go.

OPENER Kevin Nicholls hit an unbeaten half-century as Ashburton dispatched Honiton by four wickets in their first game of the season.
Honiton were all out for 178 with three balls to go – and were glad of Phil Matravers making 78 for getting that far.
The only partnership of note was one of 64 between Matravers and skipper Kevin Kelly (25).
Matt Coon had three wickets for 46 runs and there were braces for Gordon Colwill, Kris Connabeer and Damanpreet Singh.
Ashes made a great start – they were 68 for none thanks to Nicholls and Connnabeer (28) – then dipped to 96 for five as Kelly (2-21) got into them.
Nicholls was still there though and pulled Singh (12) along with him before Colwill arrived at 101 for six and stroked an unbeaten 31 to tie up the chase.

FILLEIGH made a disappointing start to the season when they went down by seven wickets at Halberton.
James Marsh top scored with 30 and Martin Brice chipped in with 28, but there wasn’t much from the rest as Filleigh were bowled out for 152.
The damage was done by James Mayes with three for 19 and two each from Josh Kallaway, Jon Geary and Dan Coles.
Halberton had a brief wobble early on – they were four for two with James Hill (38) among the wickets – but a stand of 112 between Mayes (71no) and Tom Sambrook (29no) sorted out the chase.

SEATON made a flying start to the D Division season with an eight-wicket win at home to Uplyme and Lyme Regis.
Phil Collins (3-16) and Mike Wheeler (3-19) combined to bundle the visitors out for just 114 with only Matt Brimmacombe providing much resistance.
Skipper Ben Morgan then hit an unbeaten 57 and Steven Pritchard was not out 20 when the win was confirmed in the 21st over.

FENITON made what is now a customary sluggish start to a new cricket season when they went down by 77-runs at Clyst Hydon.
Kev Brandon took 5-53 as the home team closed on what looked a below-par 218-6. Ian Sutton hit 76 and Clinton Lewis 27.
Only Feniton opener Brian Cann with a splendid 77, managed to provide any resistance as wickets tumbled at the other end, the final one falling with the total on 141.
The main architect-in-chief of Feniton’s downfall was the home team’s Sri Lankan paceman Dhanuda Haturusingha who claimed four wickets.
Former Feniton player Sean Devine had three for 18, which did nothing for the visitors’ good humour.
Feniton stalwart Brian Cann said of Haturusingha: “He’s as quick as anything I have ever faced. The ball whistled past you.”
There was a unique opening partnership for Feniton with Brian Cann joined at the crease by 15-year-old son Josh as the pair opened for the first time in a Devon League game.
Cann senor said: “Against that sort of pace it was a baptism of fire for young Josh. He’ll have gained a lot of experience from seeing that.”
