Students beat Sandford with one ball to spare

MAX Mainwaring and Rob Newman saw Division One leaders Exeter University to a two-wicket win over Sandford in a real nail-biter.

Sandford were led to a score of 114 for three by Jack Bradbury (24), Nigel Ashplant (21no) and Rory Millar (20no).

The Students’ reply saw them get home off the penultimate delivery with their runs scored by Mainwaring (40no), Newman (27no) and Will Hales (23).

Tiverton won again at the top of Division Two, although they were denied a maximum points win for the first time this term.

Tiverton were in tremendous form with the bat as they powered their way to 160 for three against Newton St Cyres, led by skipper Brendon Parr with an unbeaten 42.

The other main contributions came from Jason Parr (31no) and Alex Dixon (26 ret).

St Cyres replied with 82 for five - 26 of which were extras – and lost by 78 runs.

As St Cyres did not lose all six wickets they became the first side to deny Tiverton a full-house.

Countess Wear exacted revenge for their opening night defeat to Bradninch, beating them by four wickets in a close contest.

Tom Bunker was top scorer for Bradninch for the third time in four matches with a knock of 29 in a total of 91 all out.

Wear’s Ian Ballinger claimed two for 20 runs in his three overs.

Rob Jones (25 ret) and Darren Rice (22) combined to see their side to an eight-wicket win with two balls to spare.

Will Birley and Will Greig claimed a wicket each for Bradninch,
