Exeter pitch in the kids
EXETER are up to fifth in the Premier rankings going into the derby date with Exmouth on the County Ground after dispatching Cornwood by 104 runs.

Blake Reed reached an unbeaten century in the last of Exeter’s 50 overs in what seemed a modest total of 229 for four.

Reed and Andrew Curtis (48)   – son of former England batsman Tim Curtis – put in 124 for the first wicket but no one made more than 14 after Robin Dart trapped Curtis lbw.

Reed hit 12 fours during his 145-ball stay and reached his century with runs off Asif Raza.

The game was won and lost in the time it took Cornwood to slip from 82 for one to 86 for five and on to 95 for seven.

Chris Parker (19) and Ryan Rickard (41) put on 43 then Raza (18) and Rickard got the score up to 81 before it all went wrong.

Raza was looking to up the tempo and in an attempt to get on with it tried sweeping Harry Booker (2-23) and was caught of the top edge

Acting skipper Mark Horwell was run out, Matt Skeemer nicked his first ball to keeper Cam Evans then Richard walked past a turning ball from Booker and got stumped.

Although Ben Warren hung around to make 27 not out the game had got away and with Adam Gribble (4-17) and Billy Searle (2-35) mopping up the Corns were all out for 125 with five overs to go.

Acting skipper Rob Holman, who was filling in for the injured Jon Tipper, said the win over Cornwood created some big selection headaches for the Exmouth game.

“Jon Tipper probably won’t be back, but Matt Hicks, Andy Mead and Tom Viljoen all will be and I don’t see how we can get them in?” said Holman.

“The youngsters have come in – Merryck Steward, Ben Green and Billy Searle – and played a big part in winning the game. How do you leave them out?

“I can’t remember the last time we had a bowling side that young.”
