Devon U15 girls travelled to Winchester in Hampshire for their first Championship match of the 2013 season on Sunday 23rd June.
Emma Jackman (captain) won the toss and decided to field. It was a truly wonder start for the Devon girls with a great bowling attack from Milly Squire (9-4) and Jessie Jones (5-2). Hampshire after only five overs, were 5 for a loss of 4 wickets! Wickets continued to tumble when Lily Helston (6-3) joined the bowling attack. Hampshire’s Steph Truman (4) and Hannah Birch ((2) valiantly batted as the last batting partnership, but just after drinks Emma Jackman (1-1) brought the Hampshire innings to an end – 38 all out in 22 overs!
With the fall of Olivia Jones’ wicket in the opening over, gave Hampshire the very start they were looking for. With Devon on 26 for 3 off their first five overs, it began to look like Devon might fall the way of Hampshire. However the 22 extras off Hampshire bowling in just 8 overs helped Devon on their way to their first win of the Championship season, reaching their target of 39 for the loss of 5 wickets in just 8 overs!
