Devon v Hampshire, Sunday 15th August, Budleigh Salterton CC
Devon maintained the pressure on top two Wales and Staffordshire after taking maximum points from their fixture with Hampshire at Budleigh Salterton. After asking Hampshire to bat first it was Hannah Singleton when introduced to the bowling line up after four overs who provided the breakthrough as she removed the Hampshire top three with an aggressive spell of six overs in which she claimed 3-9. Thereafter wickets fell at regular intervals as Aimee Watkins picked up 2-14 from her ten overs, Jodie Dibble returned to clean bowl Natasha Raine and it was left to Giselle Ansley to clean up the lower order as she took 4-11 in just under four overs.
Wanting maximum points from the game Devon opted to open with Aimee Watkins and Rebecca Bertrand, looking to take advantage of the fielding restrictions. Watkins didn’t disappoint as she blasted 48 from just 24 balls and despite losing wickets quickly in the chase for 85 in under 17 overs Devon got their batting points as they claimed victory in the 16th over.
A pleasing victory which keeps Devon in the hunt for promotion, with a lot now riding on the fixture with Staffordfshire at Axminster. Full Scorecard
