Match report:
The match at Braunton CC was reduced to 45 overs per side due to overnight rain. The toss was going to be all important, as the pitch would be drying out as the weather improved. South lost the toss and were asked to bat. Popham continued his fine form in the competition by claiming 3 early wickets to reduce the South innings to 19-4. Wickets continued to fall as the ball held sway, with the only real additions to the score being made by wides and no balls. The South innings closed on 89, which included 45 extras, in only the 30th over. Pick of the bowlers being Popham and Kelly.
South needed to make a fast start and get amongst the North batting line up, and the opening bowlers of Hunt and Meech dually got stick into the North batting line up as it collapsed to 16-4 after 10 overs. The spin of Stevenson and Dyer continued the pressure as 16-4 became 26-9 and surely it was over? However, the last wicket pair of Kelly and Harrison-Houghton (the U14s wicket keeper) had other ideas. The score had ticked on to 74 in the 29th over, with the days first sensible period of batting (partnership of 48), when Kelly was caught behind for an excellent 31. South finally to a victory of 15 runs, when it should of been by more. The game was certainly high on drama, but low of quality.
