Match report:
On a breezy but sunny day at Instow North beat the West by 3 wickets. The west won the toss and decided to bat on the county’s best track, they started well seeing off the opening new ball attack of Ward and Reynolds, Millie Squire bowling accurate seam up from the sea end got the first wicket at 39 and went on to finish with 6 overs 2 for 14. Young Lauren Bowden followed up the good work with 2 more wickets and the Catherine Mitcham finished also with a brace. Anna Gower 23 and Cait O’Keefe with 23 were the only west batters to hold out resistance and the innings closed on 120.
The North started extremely positively with a Ward and Cherrington opening with a stand of 32 in less than 4 overs. Emily Ward 14 was first to go, 22 more runs for the third wicket when Anna Cherrington was bowled by Cait O’Keefe for 17. The score was rattling along at over 7 an over. Alli Kelly 14 was fourth out at 70 after 11 overs. Jessie Jones the youngster from the West started a dynamic spell with more wickets falling at 76, 83 and at 89 for 7 and a west victory was possible. The North still had Claire Reynolds (21NO) who had come in amongst the clatter of wickets batting with care and patience and along with Bea Auty (8) they took the score past 100 then 110 then the magic 121 and victory. Young Jessie Jones was the pick of the west bowlers.
Victory meant the North U15’s have won three out of three and are the inaugural Girls U15 DISTRICT CHAMPIONS
