The toss was won by North Devon and they asked South Devon to bat on what looked like a good wicket at Hatherleigh CC. The South inning progressed at just over 3 runs an over and at drinks they were 89 - 3 of 25 overs, with M. Brewer scoring 38 (6 x 4s). After the drinks break the pace of innings picked up as the discipline of the North disappeared. South added 153 in the second half with J. Thomas blasting 63 (12 x 4s and 1 x 6) and useful contributions from S. Ainsley (26), W. Symons (23) and G. Yabsley (24 no). A stiff target of 243 had been set for North.
The North innings started in similar fashion to the South with the score at the 25 over drinks being 89 – 2..... game on. Both openers contributing to a partnership of 54, with T. Pearce striking 32 (5 x 4s and 1 x 6). Again the pace was picked up in the second half with B. Meadowcroft and J. Quinn putting on 101 for the 3rd wicket. With 87 required in 14 overs we were headed for a thriller, however the South bowlers tightened the screw and with two good catches by D. Rumford to dismiss both Meadowcroft and Quinn the game changed. The North innings closed on 210 to earn a hard earned draw, which fairly reflected both teams performances. B. Meadowcroft again showed his power game for the second match running by scoring a superb 75 (13 x 4s).
Thanks to Hatherleigh CC for providing a great wicket.
