Best yet from North Devon

NORTH Devon skipper Matt Westaway said Saturday’s 15-run win over Exeter was his side’s best performance of the season so far.

Barney Huxtable slammed a maiden Premier Division ton as North Devon totted up 252 for two.

Along the way Huxtable and Max Curtis (89no) rapped 216 for the third wicket.

Then Jamie Overton, Tom Allin and Westway combined to dismiss Exeter for 237 in reply.

Exeter were cracking along at 101 without loss thanks to openers Miles Lenygon (53) and Ben Green (37) and it needed a change of bowling to shift them.

Allin picked up a couple if wickets, but the real damage was done in a five-over spell by Overton.

The Somerset paceman picked off Neal Prowse, Sean Morris and Will Steward as Exetr went from 139 for three to 147 for six.

Tom Viljoen (36no) and George Greenway (28) ensured there was no coasting by North Devon on the final lap and only when Jack Pudney removed Greenway was the chase over.

North Devon are now up to fourth in the table and Westaway is looking to climb higher in the second half of the season.

“It was a good start to the second half for us and set a standard we need to stick to,” said Westaway,

“I was pleased to see Barney and Max both get big scores together as they have threatened it without going on.

“Their stand of 200-odd gave us the opportunity to win the game.

“The rate Exeter were going at we soon knew we would have to bowl them out to win – and Jamie Overton’s five overs made sure we did.”
