Plympton in Lords final
Plympton's lady cricketers have advanced through to the finals of the ECB National Club Indoor Competition at Lords on Sunday 15th April. Having won their Regional group at Taunton three weeks ago they travelled to the Playon Sports Arena, Canary Wharf, where they were grouped with Twickenham, Kelvedon & Feering and Great Waltham.

It was a bit of a surprise to arrive to find that the games were to be played in a net, not something, other than Amara Carr, had done previously, as the regional round was in a sports hall. That said they came within one ball of beating the exprerienced Twickenham side, only losing out in the final ball as Twickenham, wanting four to win, hit the final ball for six.

The second game was a comfortable win, beating Kelvedon and Feering by 81 runs and the final group game against Great Waltham was even more convincing as the girls ran out victors by 156 runs.

As the team got used to the format performances were improving and they were left to play a semi final against near neighbours Taunton Griffins. They kept Taunton to 99 from their twelve overs, spinners Charlotte Phillips (5) and Hazelle Garton (3) shared 8 wickets. A slow start put Plympton behind the rate but the middle pair of Jemma Horton and Cait O'Keefe added 41 and it was left to the final pairing of Amara Carr and Aylish Cranstone to time the innings to perfection as Carr hit the final ball for a five to complete the win, a little nerve wracking for those on the sidelines but apparently always under control!

The final saw Plympton meet up with Twickenham and they gained revenge for their opening defeat in some style as they defeated the girls from London by 53 runs to become Southern Indoor Champions and progress to Lords for their final date.

Leading run scorers were Aylish Cranstone 152, Amara Carr 141. Leading wicket takers were Hazelle Garton 20, Charlotte Phillips 20.
