Torquay looking to banish relegation worries

TORQUAY can finally make themselves safe from relegation by beating Cornwood at the Oak Park this Saturday.
A chance to reach safety passed by last time out when Heathcoat beat Torquay by five wickets at the Rec.
Cornwood can still drag Torquay down into the bottom two by beating them, but still have to win on the final day of the season against Exeter and hope the Seasiders lose to Bovey Tracey.
Torquay are 27 points ahead of Cornwood now and one more win will do it for them.
“We’ve left ourselves a bit of work to do but I’m confident we can do the business at Cornwood,” said Torquay skipper Justin Yau.
“They are chasing the game and the points so the pressure is on them to try and move the game at pace so it will be very interesting to see how they approach it on Saturday.
“We have enough ability to turn anyone over on our day and I hope we can produce one more big performance to ensure we are safe.
“We bowled brilliantly last time out against Cornwood and I hope we can produce the same performance.
“We know it will be a tough game but we are all gearing up for it in the camp.”
Joe Thompson is out as he is in Italy and Max Brewer returns to the 2nd XI. Max Waller and Ian Baker replace them.
Champs elect Sidmouth are away to Heathcoat, who are safely in mid-table after pulling clear of the relegation places.
Plymouth will be looking to bounce back from their defeat by Bovey Tracey when they face Exeter.
The County Grounders have turned Plymouth over twice this season in league and cup, but will find it hard completing the hat-trick.
Any one of three clubs could finish second, but top of the list are Plymouth, who are at home to Exeter.
Losing to Bovey last time out did Plymouth (218pts) no favours, but they still lead Exmouth (211) and Bovey (202) going into the final furlong.
“They have beaten us twice this so we owe them one, but our league position suggests we should win,” said Plymouth captain Matt Hooper.
“We are desperate to finish second and beating Exeter should go a long way to securing that.”
Bovey Tracey at home to Sandford, who are resigned to relegation from the top flight after coming up with Heathcoat this season.
Exmouth, more concerned with the NatWest ECB T20 Cup, are away to North Devon tomorrow.
The big game for Exmouth is on Sunday when they entertain Ashtead from Surrey in the T20 Cup.
