Roborough - 2010 Devon Indoor 6-a-side Champions
A strong Roborough side fought off Bovey Tracy and Clyst Hydon to win the County stages of the ECB Club Indoor 6-a-side competition yesterday (Sunday 7th Feb). They now go on to play the Somerset winners (Sandford Arundel CC) in a regional play-off next weekend in search of a place in the regional finals in Taunton at the County Ground on February 21st.
In a low scoring match in the first semi final, Bovey set a target of 67 to win with new captian Pete Bradley top scoring with 17. Bovey took the game to the wire with some good bowling performances and it wasn't until the final over that the eventual champions knocked off the winning run with 2 balls to spare. Roborough won by 2 wkts.
Clyst Hydon were given a bye to the final due to the unfortunate withdrawal from the competiton by the Mid-Devon league. Clyst Hydon had only lost one game in the East Devon Indoor league so the final had good feel about it. Roborough won the toss and elected bat. Three of the top four reached 28 not out on their way to posting an unbeatable 134 for 2. Matt KcKay, Alex Smeeth and Gary Bone all doing the damage.
Although this was a formidable score compared to the first match Clyst were confident that 130 had been a par score in the Sidmouth Sports Centre. This confidence was short lived as their response petered out to 63 all out with 3 over remaining. Ian Sutton the pick of the batters for Clyst and the portly Chris Jelley the pick of their bowling attack!
