We were luckily to have a bright sunny day, although a cold easterly wind blew across Kingsbridge Cricket club, for the opening fixture of the South under 10 district match versus the West.
The West won the toss and asked the South to bat. The South got off to a strong start with Luke Medlock playing some excellent aggressive shots and Freddie Ford hitting some good on drives. When the score was 32 James White brilliantly caught Freddie Ford with a diving one handed catch at mid off. Luke Medlock was then bowl by an off cutter from James White that came down the hill and Archie Christopher followed quickly chopping a ball from Will Scott Munden onto his back leg and then onto his stumps. The score was 44 for 3 and the South looked vulnerable. Cole Harford and Reuben Stanley built an exceptional match winning unbeaten partnership of 170 runs. Cole scoring 50 not out with a 4 from the last ball of the innings. Reuben was 40 not out. The concentration shown by each player was impressive and put the South in a strong position after their 35 overs with 218 for 3.
The West got their innings off to a solid start with Will Scott Munden and James White. However they went for an optimistic second run only for James to be run out after a good throw from Cole Harford. Will Scott Munden batted very solidly and held the West innings together. He had scored 36 when Luke Medlock managed to bowl him through his solid defence. Good tight bowling from Joss West, Luke Medlock, Cole Harford, Bennedict Forsey and an excellent caught and bowled from AJ Tehrani lead to the pressure building on the West and they started to loose wickets finally being all out for 158.
This was an excellent game played at a high standard with some excellent individual performances. Great spirit was shown by both sides. Thank you to the umpires, scorers and a big thank you to Catherine for an excellent tea.
