A dry day at Stoke Gabriel CC saw the South U13’s host the East U13’s. We started on time even though some members of each team found the venue hard to find!
The East won the toss and asked the South to bat. The South openers managed to bat through to the 13th over when Seb Born was narrowly run out, James McMurray was out 2 overs later caught by Jake Reddick from the accurate bowling of Dan Pyle. At 29 for 2 from 15 overs the platform was set for the middle order to push on but unfortunately more tight bowling from the East restricted the South to 148 for 8 with only the home man of the match Ben Steer making it look easy.
In response the East started quickly with Will Thompson making a swift 37 including 2 sixes before being caught by Jack West from the bowling of Dan Wolf. After Will’s dismissal the South’s bowilng got tighter with accurate spin from Toby Codd and consistent pace from Jack West & Brad Causey. At drinks the game was evenly balanced with the East at 90 for 5.
The East batsman gained extra strength from the drinks and set to pushing the East to victory. After finally wearing out his six year old bat and borrowing another Paddy (44 no) hit a fine 6 to win the game in the 32nd over.
Thanks to John Webber and all at Stoke Gabriel CC for hosting this fixture and the South mums for providing tea.
