The last game of the U13 Inter District Competition saw the South entertain the North at a very windy Brixham CC.
The North captain won the toss and decided to have a bowl against the home team. The South’s innings started swiftly and they were on 33 without loss after 5 overs. However 2 overs later they were 36 for 2 and were heading for a collapse. In came Jack West at No4 and steadied the ship. Next out was the South’s captain Toby Codd for 36 in the 20th over. With the score at 74 for 3 the platform was set for a decent total. Next in was Dan Wolf, he and West set about attacking the bowling of the North. West was eventually bowled out by Callum Mitchell for 45 but Wolf went on to a ‘classy’ 47 not out. At 167 for 6 the expected total of 200 seemed a step too far. Coming in at No 9 Tom Blundell accepted the challenge and helped to push the total to 193 for 7 from 44 overs. Blundell was not out on 17 at the end of the innings, hitting 4 x 4’s from the last over!!!!
The North’s innings started slowly with some tight bowling from Ben Steer and Brad Causey. Tom Gidney was the first man out, bowled by Causey in the 10th over with the score on 29. The pressure was then on Gidney’s opening partner Sam Lathwell. 6 overs later Alfie Huxtable was bowled by Jack West and the South took control. Lathwell dug in but began to run out of partners. He was eventually out one run short of a deserved half century. The only other batsman to reach double figures was Alex Hannam who scored 12. Excellent bowling by Seb Cook and Toby (both taking 4 wickets) restricted the North to 103 all out with 14 overs remaining.
Thanks again to Brixham CC for their hospitality and their ever growing support of district cricket.
