As you may or may not be aware the below proposal to amend the Constitution of our club was put before the Annual General Meeting held on 22nd November 2014.
In keeping with the spirit of the various championship competitions the Championship Captains can only select players in the relevant age range permitted by the rules of the relevant championship competition. For the sake of clarity, in the ECB Over 50s Championship, only players aged 50-59 and players who have played in the 50s competition during the season & reach the age of 60 before the end of the playing season should be selected. In exceptional circumstances only, and subject to prior consultation with the Club Chairman, an over age player can be selected.
The motion was passed by 18 votes to 10. However, it was pointed out this did not meet the 75% majority that is required under our Constitution. Therefore the motion was invalid.
At a committee meeting held on 4th December 2014, this subject was discussed at great length in order to finalise this matter and to satisfy our members.
It was resolved that the captain of the over 50 1st XI, Graham Munday would pick his strongest side but he would do so in greater consultation with the captain of the over 50’s 2nd XI, Phil Bees and if necessary with the captain of the over 60’s 1st XI, Chris Theedom. It is hoped that this will alleviate the necessity of calling an Extraordinary General Meeting.
Be assured that under no circumstances would this club be unable to field a full side.
The committee remains committed to ensuring as many senior cricketers in Devon continue to play cricket and to make decisions in the best interest of the Club.
