Over 500 hours of hard graft from more than 40 volunteers gave Shaldon Optimists new home, the Hazeldown Oval, a good old fashioned spring clean during their first NatWest CricketForce Weekend. More than 2000 fixings, 20 paint brushes, 20 pots of paint and a trailer-load of recycled timber gave were used over the course of the three day event.
Raymond Brookes was given the “Beyond the Call of Duty Award” for his efforts over the three days putting in over 20 hours, most, with a 1 inch paint brush.
The reward for all their efforts was the newly formed ladies section playing their first ever game against the Under 13s team.Under 12 bowler, Will Stanton, is looking for a new home for a few days after ‘cartwheeling’ his mums off stump out of the ground with his second delivery.A very close game saw the ladies win by two runs with the 13s needing three off the last delivery.
