BOVEY Tracey breezed into finals day of the Ivor Dewdney’s Devon T20 competition thanks to a thumping eight-wicket win over Braunton in the regional qualifier last night.Braunton were limited to 98 for six in their 20 overs – opener Tom Mitcham top scoring with 48 from 45 balls. He hit four fours and two sixes.
Mitcham and Jaz Kalsi (21) hoisted 60 for the first wicket but after Mitcham was run out by James Fulner in the tenth over the runs dried up.
Frugal bowling from Mark Gribble (1-11) and Delon Mullins (2-17) – both of them bowled maidens – slowed Braunton to the point where only Dom Bracher was able to make a double-figure score in the second ten oves.
Knocking off the runs was a doddle for Bovey, who were home and dry with nearly seven overs to go.
Chris Clayton (15) and Ben Ayres (16) put on 27 for the first wicket, Clayton followed Ayres back into the pavilion at 34, which left Mullins and star of the show Charlie Carter to see Bovey home.
Carter blazed 51 not out off 24 balls with five sixes and three fours in a breakneck stand of 65 unbroken.
Plymouth are already through to the finals, but there are two more places to be decided.
The last qualifiers are due to be played tonight when Sidmouth entertain Tavistock (6.15) and Bradninch host Heathcoat (6pm)
Finals day is on Sunday at Exmouth, where the action starts at 10.30am.
Admission is free, although there will be a £3.50 car park charge.
