Further success for the Tarka Girls

With the same teams as the previous week for the U13 Lady Taverners final it was interesting to see if the dominance of Tarka Girls could continue at U11s as well. Being the reigning U11 regional champions one would assume yes would be the answer.

With Tarka taking on the ever improving Topsham St James in the first round of games, Topsham St James batted first posting a challenging 234 in their allotted 12 overs. With Tarka bowling very straight and fielding tidily Topsham St James did well to get to that score. In response Tarka Girls, played attackingly hitting lots of boundaries, however tight bowling in the middle overs managed to restrict the run rate.  That being said however Tarka came away victorious, posting a second innings score of 270.

Next saw a closely fought encounter between Paignton and Topsham St James. Topsham St James batting first posted around the 250 mark, with some healthy ball striking by the Topsham St James girls.  Paignton in response managed to push towards 230 but this was quite enough and just came up short.

The final contest of the day was between Tarka Girls and Paignton. Judging by the first result this may have been one-way traffic, however Paignton made real strides of improvement with they’re bowling in particular, bowling very straight at the Tarka Girls. Tarka however showed their experience and cricket nous to put away the loose balls that were bowled. Tarka finished their inning compiling 308.  In response the Paignton innings never really got going after finishing their overs with just 220 on the board.

This meant that Tarka Girls (Pictured Above) managed to defend their Devon Champions crown and go on to the regionals at Frenchay Cricket Club on the 27th July looking to defend the regional title as well. We wish Tarka Girls all the best in the next round; hopefully they can bring the trophy home like last year.

Thanks go out to our umpires for the day Don Fathers and Jim Quin both of whom did and amazing job officiating all the games, also a thanks goes to Exeter University ground staff who prepared the ground ready for the girls to play superbly.

As a small a-side to the U11s Tarka victory, it was a good day for Tarka all round with Carmen Clements (Pictured) who scored her maiden 50 and 100 all in one game for Tarka Ladies versus Sandford in the afternoon.  A good day at the office for everyone associated with Tarka.
