Daymond looks ahead to A Division

PROMOTED Tavistock cruised to an 88-run win over visiting Shobrooke Park which sent them up as champions ahead of Bideford.

Tavvy’s total of 250 for eight was constructed around two big stands, both involving South African Thocko Peter.

Dave Manning (54) and Peter put on 72 for the fourth wicket and Aron Churchill had been and gone for 29.

Then Tim Pope (26) and Peter (49no) added 57 for the seventh wicket.

Pick of the bowlers for Shobrooke with three for 38 was Devon O60s’ player Pete Turner.

Shobrooke gave it a go for a while – Jon James (43) and Andy Steer (34) cracking along – but there wasn’t much after they went.

Spinners Sean Cleave (2-34) and Jamie Stephens (2-41) did the hard work, leaving Shaun Daymond (4-15) to mop up the stragglers.

Tavistock took the title by 28 points from Bideford to return to  the A Division after six years away with a title.

Skipper Daymond said some modest recruiting needs to be done ahead of next season, but not too much.

“With one or two new players I am confident we will hold our own,” said Daymond.

“I look at our side and now and compare it to Lewdown’s last season when they went up and would say we are better than they were.

“If they can survive we should do more than that.”
