North Devon 150-8 (B Meadowcroft 55*; D Mulberry 2-12, T Rossouw 2-25) beat West Devon 149-6 (A Richards 58*, M Skeemer 37; I Hydelman 1-14) by 2 wickets
West Devon were put into bat by the North on a blustery showery day at Cornwood. The West openers Matt Skeemer and Aaron Richards had an excellent partnership of 81 off 21 overs before Matt was out for 37 off 60 balls. The West then progressed to 114 for 4 in the 37th over when the heavens opened. An early tea was taken and the West resumed with 8 overs to bat with the game reduced to 45 overs per side. Some momentum was lost and the West progressed to 149 for 6 in their allotted overs. Aaron Richards batted through the innings to reach 58* off 124 balls in 155 minutes. All the North bowlers contributed with economic figures with the leg spinner Hydelman taking 1-14 off 9, Brazier 1-21 off 8 and Fogerty 1-20 off 8 the most economic. Extras contributed 35 to the West score with 15 wides and 6 no balls.
In reply the North innings progressed in small partnerships with wickets falling at regular intervals, although they were always up with the run rate. Barney Meadowcroft was the star player with 55* off 68 balls, backed up by J Quinn 14 and I Hydelman 13. The West bowlers kept up the pressure by taking wickets at key points with the East reduced to 107-7 and 133-8 in the 38th over. However the North managed to get over the line with the West contributing 24 wides and 2 no balls with 41 extras in total. T Rossouw with 2-25 off 9 and D Mulberry 2-12 off 4 the main wicket takers. Skeemer also had an excellent run out with a direct hit when fielding off his own bowling.
The 2 stand out players were Aaron for his powers of concentration and resoluteness and Barney for his crisp timing and shot selection.
