West Devon U14s v South Devon U14s 2011
West Devon Under 14s v South Devon Under 14s

Sunday 22nd May, Plymouth College

South Devon 159-6 (W Simmons 88; R Boase 3-31, K Vandabonna 2-21, B Singlehurst 2-25) beat West Devon 135 all out (M Skeemer 30; J Thomas 3-35, H Whitlock 2-14, B Roberts 2-29) by 24 runs

South Devon were put into bat on a very windy day at Plymouth College. The South were soon in trouble against the probing bowling of Singlehurst and Boase. At the end of their respective 6 over spells the South were 36-4, with only G Penrice offering any resistance with 14. Wickets continued to tumble as the West rotated their bowlers with the South reduced to 36-5, 52-6, 84-7, and 97-8. Will Simmons batting at No 5 was the main contributor up to this point. He was joined by A Bligh at the fall of the 8th wicket and together they put on 43 in 6 overs against some wayward West Bowling. This effectively changed the game as the West should have bowled the South out after their earlier dominance with the ball. Simmons batted very well putting the bad ball away to the boundary with excellent timing to finish on 88 before being the last man out with the score on 159.

In reply West lost A Richards for 0 against the lively bowling of J Thomas. M Skeemer and T Rossouw rebuilt to 53 in the 12th over before Skeemer was removed for 30 from one that popped off of H Whitlock and Rossouw was LBW to B Roberts for 14. At this point the West Batting capitulated to 82-7 off 23 overs with naive shot selection and running. At this point B Couldwell and B Singlehurst set their stall out to bat time with minimal risk and they took the score to 123 in the 39th over before Couldwell was removed for 16 and Singlehurst for 17. The innings folded soon after with the West dismissed for 135.

Thanks to Jon Mears for hosting the game at Plymouth College.
